Marfil, Guanajuato
Things to do and to see |
|
The "La
Torre " house belonged to the
former Hacienda La Trinidad and is at about a mile and
a half from the town Guanajuato.
It is built in the former
places where silver was worked on.
All these buildings go back to the time of the Colony. They
were part of what was known as the "Antiguo Real de Marfil" and they are
like time warps.
There are three churches in Marfil which go back to those days as well
as the "Antiguo
Camino" which used to be the road to Guanajuato and where there are ruins
of the Haciendas de Beneficio, some of them converted into museums such
as the former Hacienda of San Gabriel de Barrera with ist lovely
gardens or the Gene Byron Museum.

The
rapid expansion of mining turned Guanajuato into a splendid town
with beautiful houses and churches. Especially
the churches of la Valenciana,
Cata and Mellado with their mines. The Basilica Colegiata, the
La Companía church or the San Diego, San Roque and Belén
churches, just to mention some of them. |
